August is 3/4 of a year old. This has been a busy month for us. When you function on an academic schedule, September brings excitement yet busyness. Whew. Take that as a clue to why I am writing this two days past his nine month “birthday”.
August’s personality continues to develop and he somehow gets busier and busier. After work during the day and chasing him around in the evenings, we go to bed exhausted. To say August is mobile is an understatement. From the time he wakes up to the time he goes to bed, he crawls and crawls and crawls. When he’s not crawling, he’s pulling himself up on anything and everything, opening cabinet doors, trying to eat books, playing with cords, and the list could continue. You get the picture.
Frist/Milestones: For awhile he was crawling army style. Pulling himself around. This month he discovered how to crawl on all fours. And he loves it. Gets him from place A to place B and back to place A then over to place C and then to place D, back to place A…a whole lot faster! 🙂
He’s finally started saying “baba, mama, dada, goo, goo, etc.”.
He’s learned how to clap his hands.
August took his first trip to the apple orchard and Art Prize in Grand Rapids.
First Injury: I know this won’t be the last injury we face, especially considering the “no fear” nature of this child. August was taking a bath in the tub. He’s been pulling himself up in the tub for awhile now, so I didn’t think too much of it. As he was standing up, his feet slipped out from under him and he hit his chin on the way down, chipping his front tooth. Poor guy screamed for about a minute then was back to crawling around. All seems fine with the tooth. Just a little chip that he’ll have to face for the next 6-7 years.
Likes/Dislikes: He likes the most random “toys”: wooden spoon, playing with the humidifier (although he’s not really allowed to), pedialyte bottle, his new grill (thank you garage sale! 🙂 ).
He LOVES the guitar as well. He will squeal and yelp and jump whenever he hears it. He tries anything possible to get his hands on it.
Dislikes: table food. Oh my word. We’ve tried giving him ground beef, peas and black beans. He hates it. Chokes, gags, cries. It’s awful. GIves me a heart attack and he doesn’t eat. The table food he will eat is, bread, puffs, and cheerios. I guess we need to contiune offering it and trying a variety of things.
New Routine: There haven’t been too many “new adventures” this month, since we have gotten back into a pretty strict school routine. August seems be loving daycare. He squeals with excitement when he sees Ms. Jan and the other kids. I’ll take that as a good sign.
I think that’s about it. It hasn’t been too exciting of a month here. Even through the busyness of work we truly treasure each day with August. Everyone says to enjoy each moment because they go by fast, I feel like we are doing that. Chris and I often say we wish babies came out around 8/9 months old. This phase has been so fun for us (sleeping at night, taking naps, laughing, interacting, developing a personality, etc.). What a joy and blessing he is to us! Can’t wait to experience the upcoming months with him where he is still considered an “infant”.
