I’m a few days late posting this, but I thought it would be appropriate to post a 18 month update. I often sit back and look at August, who is this mini-Chris, and cannot believe that he’s officially a toddler. A toddler with a vibrant personality. A toddler who loves people and dogs. A toddler who is curious, determined and *gasp* stubborn.
When August was a newborn, I heard over and over “just wait till 18 months, and that’s when the fun begins”. And I couldn’t agree more. It’s so fun to watch August discover the world around him. He has interests and favorites (balls, bubbles, dogs, people). He approaches unfamiliar situations with caution until he feels safe, then there’s no stopping him. We play outside together, have tickle fights every evening and make new friends everywhere we go.. I see the innocence and joy of childhood everyday. And it’s amazing.
Toddlerhood isn’t always easy in the Bohle home. Food remains a struggle. He refuses to eat anything green or any meat. He LOVES three main food groups: grains, dairy, fruit. A work in progress, I guess. The word I’ve coined to help describe August is “determined”. His pediatrician used the word “persistent”. If he wants something, he will work till he gets it. If he doesn’t want something he will scream until it’s gone. I think another word for this would be “stubborn”. We are very familiar with tantrums and our patience is tested often.
His biggest “likes” right now are: playing with balls, blowing bubbles, reading Where is Elmo’s Blanket (over and over and over and over and over), playing in the sandbox, eating blueberries, climbing, petting dogs, learning new words and meeting new people.
His biggest “dislikes” are: eating certain foods, ending an activity before he’s ready, sitting still for more than 30 seconds, unsupervised water sprinkler time, and riding in the grocery cart.
All this to say, we couldn’t imagine life without August. What a blessing he is to us.
August Thacker–we love you beyond words. Be confident in who God has created you to be (curious, friendly, determined, social). Find your strength and identity in the Lord and learn how to love others well. May your joy for life and love for people never fade. You are a special little boy, who will do many great things for your community. Thank you for showing us a whole new kind of love.
We love you, August Thacker!
Here are the past several months in review:
April: We were FINALLY able to play outside (most days). August started to be able to burn off all of his energy and suddenly was way more content outside than inside! We also celebrated Easter in Owosso.
May: For Tulip Time my (Amanda) brother, sister-in-law, and dad came for the weekend. It was a fun time being together as a family and enjoying all the Dutch goodness.
June: Summer!! We’ve been spending a lot of days at the beach and pool. We also spent a good portion of June away from August during our trip to DC to visit our good friend, Kris!
Chris and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary in Chicago. We spent a day playing with Matt and Alisse then August got to spend the night at their house while Chris and I enjoyed a nice night in the city, child free! 🙂
There you have it! We are so blessed and thankful for this little boy! We love you August!!
